Neoprene elastic, which are also known as polychloroprene is a family of synthetic rubbers that are produced through the polymerization of chloroprene. Neoprene exhibits good chemical stability. It also tends to maintain flexibility over a wide temperature range. Neoprene is usually sold either as solid rubber or in latex form. It is used in a wide variety of applications, such as laptop sleeves, orthopaedic braces (wrist, knee, etc.), electrical insulation, liquid and sheet applied elastomeric membranes or flashings, automotive fan belts etc. It is one of the most useful latex free elastic.
Neoprene elastics resist degradation quite well. It is more resistant than natural or synthetic rubber. This relative inertness makes it suitable for demanding applications such as gaskets, hoses, corrosion-resistant coatings etc. It can be used as a base for adhesives, noise isolation in power transformer installations, and also as padding in external metal cases to protect the contents while also allowing a snug fit. It resists burning better than exclusively hydrocarbon based rubbers which results in its appearance in weather stripping for fire doors as well as in combat related attire such as gloves and face masks. Its tolerance of extreme condition allows it to be used to line landfills. This latex free synthetic elastic has a boiling point of260 °C (500 °F).
It is a very pliable rubber-like material with insulating properties like rubber or other solid plastics in its native state.
In addition to that, it is fire-resistant. Because of that, it is commonly used in power transformers as well as other electrical applications. Since neoprene is a soft rubber by nature, it is also an effective source of padding and also reinforcement for certain fragile applications.

Neoprene can be compounded for specific properties including low temperature and compression set resistance which makes it a great material for construction applications.
